Mesh Count, Micron & Aperture Converter

Convert a mesh construction between mesh count, aperture, micron, millimetre and inch without hiding the wire-diameter dependency.

How to use this result

Mesh count alone does not define an opening. Add wire diameter for a defensible conversion.

Check the units

Keep the drawing, quotation and purchase order in one defined unit system.

Copy the assumptions

A useful result includes the inputs, formula basis and any material density used.

Confirm manufacturability

Ask the supplier to confirm wire tolerance, aperture tolerance, weave and edge condition.

What to confirm

Submit the result with the application, dimensions, quantity and operating conditions if you want a human specification check.

Why the converter needs two known values

Mesh count, aperture and wire diameter are linked by pitch, but no single value uniquely defines the other two. Choose the unknown and enter the other two values. If the computed wire or opening is zero or negative, the stated construction is geometrically impossible.

Worked interpretation

For example, 100 openings per inch means 0.254 mm pitch. With 0.09 mm wire, the nominal opening is 0.164 mm or 164 micrometres. Calling every 100 mesh cloth “150 micron” would hide the wire choice.

Before you put the result on a purchase order

Confirm the construction and weave, nominal geometry, material grade, finished width and length, edge treatment, quantity, tolerance basis and inspection documents. State whether values are nominal, minimum or maximum. For a replacement part, add a drawing or labeled photographs and explain the observed failure mode.

Common mistakes to avoid

Save the input and output with the RFQ so another reviewer can reproduce the calculation. If the duty is critical, use a sample, drawing review or process test before releasing production.

Method status: Formula-derived values are estimates from nominal inputs. Reviewed 16 July 2026.
